# KiJi KiJi is a modern, performant RSS reader built to stay open for weeks or months: light on memory and CPU, with fixed cache limits, a virtualized article list, small refresh batches that pause during sleep, and automatic log cleanup, so memory does not keep growing. Stations, Defuddle/Readability extraction, Markdown sync for saved articles. KiJi is free and open source, and runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux as native Tauri builds (x64, and ARM64 where supported). Tagline: "A modern, performant RSS reader." Brand summary: - Built to stay open — runs for weeks or months without slowing down; caches have fixed limits, the list renders only what is on screen, refresh runs a few feeds at a time and pauses during sleep, and logs older than two days are deleted. - Local-only — no account, no server; all data is stored in a local SQLite database. - Stations — feeds grouped by tags; views switch between unread and saved; no algorithmic timeline. - Reader mode — Defuddle and Readability extraction engines convert full page HTML into clean article text. - Markdown sync — saved articles are written to a local folder as Markdown files. - Reader themes — 13 book-style themes (Paper, Sepia, Calm, Eye Care, Washi, Parchment, Newsprint, E-Ink, Solarized, Quiet, Midnight, OLED Night, High Contrast), each with a light and a dark version. - Assistant access (MCP) — Claude Desktop (one-click extension), Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code (install links), Codex, and any MCP app can read what the user shares: the article open in KiJi, stations, feeds, articles by time range, search, a digest, and saved articles with highlights. Optional changes (mark read, star, save) only behind a separate "Allow assistants to make changes" switch. Off by default, runs on the user's computer through the local `kiji-app --mcp` server; set up in Settings → Assistant.
